Cross Tidy Towns

Each year around March, volunteer members of the Cross Tidy Towns group, will meet to begin work on the general tidying up of the village. The first meetings will generally involve a walk through of the village, to look at any issues that need resolving or indeed any enhancements that can be made. This includes litter picking, tidying, weeding, painting and the planting of flowers. Sometimes it includes the introduction of new planters and flower beds. It also involves putting a heavy emphasis on sustainability and environmental awareness.

The members of Tidy Towns will often do training on pollinator friendly planting and in fact this year, using the newly renovated Halla Eoin, members of Cross Tidy Towns began a gardening group - to encourage all those who love gardening in the area to attend talks, learn and share knowledge and even to swap plants. It also helps to bring like minded people together. Gardening tends to be a lovely and gentle practice with positive outcomes.

The Tidy Towns group also focus on including environmentally sensitive initiatives such as rain water harvesting in the village, the inclusion of a village orchard, the building of a bug hotel, the rewilding of certain areas for our biodiversity and overall they help bring pride of place to the village and the people who live there and in the surrounding areas.

Cross Tidy Towns meet regularly from March to July - and all hands are welcome. It is a lovely, gentle and friendly way to meet up with your neighbours while also giving back to the community.

You can always touch base on their Facebook Page or by email on crosstidytowns@gmail.com.
