Local Beach Clean
Being surrounded on three sides by water, this farthermost point of the Loop Head Peninsula, has many small beaches, coves and inlets that require regular combing to make sure they remain clean and safe for all to enjoy.
The Beach Clean ups (although sometimes pushed out until May due to storms and tides etc) are often carried out in March and April and often in conjunction with Clean Coasts Ireland who will provide pickers, gloves and rubbish bags. The clean ups are always well supported by local volunteers and also supported by Clare County Council in terms of access to recycling and the general disposal of beach waste.
Often, particularly after bad storms, much waste is washed in from the Atlantic - and sometimes, trailer loads of rubbish will be collected - with as much as possible going to recycling. From time to time, we also come across illegal dumping which is very disheartening but very hard to stop. It’s important that people remember how easy it is now to recycle and even to visit our local dump and recycling centre in Lisdeen.
We remain very thankful to all those who help on these beach clean days. It is always good to get out and meet your neighbours and do something positive for the local area and the environment at the same time.
