Kilbaha Playground
In 2012, a group of local residents came together, and with the support of Kilballyowen Development, they developed the idea of creating a fully accessible playground for Kilbaha Village.
Having been donated a beautiful site in a superb location in the centre of Kilbaha village (with huge thanks to the Haier family) the group went about sourcing funding through the LEADER programme.
From site development to the building and fit out of the playground itself, to endless fundraising drives and safety reports, the group put many months of hard work into ensuring a beautiful playground for the children of the locality and for all those who visited.
The playground was officially opened in 2012 by Santa Claus who made a special visit via boat to the village in December of that year.
The committee continued for the following ten years, to maintain the playground.
This year, in 2022, the committee secured funding of €44,000 from the Department of Rural and Community Development through the CLÁR Programme. This funding was for an upgrading and refurbishment of the playground and its equipment. The committee sought the very important opinions of the children of the local national school, St Cuans, on the choice of new equipment.
This year the current playground committee are passing on the mantle to another group of residents willing to continue the good work.
